Safe, equitable and high quality health care for all is the common goal of an innovative partnership between the Institute for Diversity and Health Equity (IFDHE) and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois (BCBSIL). To spread this initiative to support underserved communities throughout Illinois, a new partnership grant program was launched in 2020 to help hospitals and health systems expand services related to maternal and child health, pediatric asthma, adult diabetes, breast cancer and geographic disparities, including access to care in rural communities.

America’s hospitals and health systems are working hard to ensure that every person in every community receives high-quality, equitable and safe care. To do that, we must eliminate health and health care disparities that continue to exist for far too many racially, ethnically and culturally diverse individuals.

Each fall, the Institute for Diversity and Health Equity partners with various hospital and health systems across the country to provide an 18-20 week paid internship opportunity for academically strong, diverse individuals. This opportunity is aimed at students who have completed their health care oriented graduate degree within the last two years. The Fall Enrichment Program (FEP) offers an immersive on-site experience for those who want to become exceptional hospital administrators and health care leaders.

The Institute's Summer Enrichment Program (SEP) places diverse, graduate students pursuing advanced degrees in health care administration or a related field in 10-week, paid internships within health care organizations.
