About The Exeter Group
The Exeter Group is a minority-owned healthcare equity consulting firm founded in 1998. Exeter partners with organizations to improve outcomes and eliminate disparities. Our unique approach integrates research, practice, and actionable data to produce measurable results. Among other things, Exeter supports organizations in designing, developing, implementing, and evaluating DEI and Health Equity strategies.
Our trusted brand and reputation have allowed us to operate continuously for more than 25 years. Exeter is proud of its long-term clients, repeat business, and valued referrals. Our principals, Alex duBuclet and Dr. Audra Davis, have invested in the firm’s infrastructure to foster growth. We believe that our people are our greatest asset.
Exeter’s experience with diversity, equity, and inclusion, and health equity is broad and deep. We have supported human resources, diversity, talent management, patient experience, and supply chain leaders, as well as boards and executive leadership teams in designing strategies and implementing tactical solutions that are both impactful and measurable. Our client base comprises healthcare delivery and healthcare adjacent organizations (professional associations, medical device companies, insurance plans, etc.). Within the past two years, no fewer than 200 organizations have engaged Exeter as a partner for DEI and Health Equity work, including strategy development and implementation, policy and procedure review, training, coaching, and retained search.
A focus on delivering high quality products and services drives us. We subscribe to the Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) model in our consultative approach: collect and analyze data, implement solutions, and measure impact and return on investment (ROI). Being metrics-driven and process-oriented are critical components to achievements with clients. Exeter believes that we only succeed when our clients have benefitted from our partnership and reached their engagement goals. In fact, our clients’ success is a barometer of our own.
In conjunction with our two-plus decades in the DEI consulting space, following are some aspects that distinguish Exeter from other consultants:
Healthcare Focus
- Exeter’s sole concentration on the healthcare vertical (hospitals, health systems, associations, health plans and insurers) allows for leveraging of best practices, anticipating challenges, as well as thorough benchmarking of clients.
DEI Focus
- While other consultancies may have existed for a greater period of time than Exeter, it is not likely there are any that have worked in the DEI space for nearly as long. Candidly, we have noticed many firms have recently begun performing DEI work within the past four years, coinciding with the murder of George Floyd. While we applaud the fact that this work is being done more widely, we have also been told by clients that there is a discernable difference in insight, process, and offerings between Exeter the relative newcomers. The value-add we bring clients is evidenced by the repeat business and referrals we earn for 66% of our business.
Health Equity Focus
- Exeter also has aligned DEI and Health Equity in our consultancies, particularly around reducing SDoH for patients and employees. Additionally, as we know that employment is a critical determinant, we focus on increasing share of spend for diverse suppliers by increasing access and removing barriers.
