With 57 million Americans living in rural areas and dependent on the nearest hospital for most of their care needs, it is more important than ever to preserve the viability of access to care in rural America.

AHA President and CEO Rick Pollack opened the Institute for Diversity and Health Equity’s National Leadership & Education Conference today by affirming the AHA’s commitment to health equity, diversity and inclusion.

When addressing health care disparities it is imperative to begin by creating a climate of change and embedding it within your organization’s culture, panelists said at the AHA Annual Meeting.

The two health systems made significant advancements in the last year to reduce care disparities in their organizations. Health leaders will delve into similar themes at the Institute for Diversity and Health Equity's National Leadership Conference in June.
