The infection has been linked to a specific egg brand, Milo’s Poultry Farms LLC, which has now been recalled. Analysis & Action Salmonella infections are often tied to infected food sources which are then recalled. Some foods have an inherent risk of salmonella infection to include eggs. Facilities should be aware of the outbreak and monitor for salmonella symptoms. If a case of salmonella is found, infected patients should be interviewed to determine if the case is related to this outbreak. Physical Security India: Drunk Driver Sent For Medical Test, Attacks Doctor, Nurse In Hospital Summary A government doctor has been attacked in a case of assault pertaining to a drunk driver who was sent in for a medical examination. The 25-year-old male, who had been caught for driving under the influence earlier, started becoming aggressive while the staff was taking his blood sample. Only minor injuries were suffered as the man has been arrested for his actions. Analysis & Action Yet another case of assault on medical professionals has taken place after a patient, who had been taken in for driving under the influence, attacked workers. As medical professionals continue to see violent acts against them, a high level of attention is to be brought to the issue. Facilities should take necessary safety precautions to ensure their staff have a secure work environment. Fraud and Criminal Threats South Africa: Aviation Medical Examiner Under Fire Summary In a case of fraudulent medical activity, a past senior Designated Aviation Medical Examiner has been accused of issuing false medical certificates though her license was invalid. The woman formerly worked for the South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA). SACAA’s online systems caught unauthorized medical certificates and examinations, which violated civil aviation regulations. As of now, those who receive services from the fraudulent actor have been issued notice with further instructions. Analysis & Action The validity and safety of aviation and aspiring medical professionals within aviation are in jeopardy as another case of medical fraud comes to light. With lack of compliance being shown by the suspected individual in the past and present, a rise in security regarding authorized personnel is likely to be put into question. Facilities should ensure they have proper schemes in place to ensure up to date licensing with the Board of Medicine. Health and Environmental Threats United States: Three More Human Cases Of West Nile Virus Diagnosed In Massachusetts Summary The previously reported West Nile Virus has seen three more human cases surface recently in Massachusetts. The three individuals were all exposed within different counties, Bristol County, Suffolk County, and Barnstable County. Additionally, the individuals are all in their 60’s. These new cases raise West Nile Virus cases this year to ten total, with a new fourth case of a 50-year-old bringing it to 11. Mortality rates are high as half of those identified with the virus have died, as of now there is no known treatment. Analysis & Action As the West Nile Virus slowly continues its spread throughout this season, more cases continue to appear causing higher concern for risk in Massachusetts. With the virus imposing fatal risks, citizens look to best protect themselves as counties continue to become contaminated. Facilities should monitor for symptoms of West Nile Virus and recommend strategies to avoid infection. Protests & Disruption Events India: RG Kar Protest: Doctors Demand Live Broadcast, CM’s Prescence In Meet Summary Protests continue in West Bengal as the junior doctors have reached over a month on their cease of work. The West Bengal government has now acted, inviting the doctors to a meeting with hopes of a resolution. Analysis & Action Junior doctors remain outraged at the lack of government response to the sexual assault and murder of a medical professional. As protests continue, the government has been forced to act, asking doctors to return to their work and compliance to start talks for a compromise. The doctors have shown a lack of satisfaction with the response, presenting a list of demands before accepting. Until those demands are met, protests are expected to continue. Critical Infrastructure Threats Germany: Bridge In Dresden Collapses Into Elbe River Summary Ground shakes and loud noises were reported as a bridge collapsed into the Elbe River in Dresden, Germany.
